The U.S.-led emergency release of oil from strategic reserves was smaller than the market had expected. Front-month Brent futures rose by more than $2.60 per barrel on Tuesday, their largest one-day gain in three months.
Prices had been trending lower since the start of the month before the rally.
A smaller-than-expected supply release removes the bearish shock traders had priced in, so crude prices rebounded. Higher crude lifts diesel and fertilizer costs and can support vegetable-oil and biofuel demand, which affects feed input costs.
