The IEA's World Energy Outlook 2016 forecasts gas demand growth of 1.5% a year to 2040 and expects global LNG trade to double. It also warns that record cuts in upstream oil investment could create a significant risk of conventional supply shortfalls within a few years.
The long-term outlook points to expanding gas trade and a possible future oil supply shortfall, which supports the medium-term price outlook for energy.
