South Korea has destroyed more than 20 million chickens and ducks at nearly 400 farms since avian influenza was first reported in mid-November. Broiler farms face restrictions on moving newly hatched chicks, and the Korea Broiler Council expects chicken prices to jump from January.
Restocking limits and a feared drop in fresh supply point to higher domestic chicken prices in South Korea, though weak consumer demand may limit farm income gains. Feed demand from broiler farms could tighten if chick placements stay restricted.
