An Iowa State research piece says trade agreements matter heavily for US beef and pork exports. It notes the US withdrawal from the TPP dampened beef export growth, while USDA projects 2017 beef exports up 6 percent and pork exports up 5 percent, with strong China pork buying.
Projected export growth supports domestic beef and pork demand, although loss of TPP access is a negative for future export expansion.
