Rising water on the Mississippi River has forced some river elevators to suspend barge loadings, with National Weather Service projections showing moderate to major flood levels between Quad Cities and St. Louis. Closure of ADM's loading facility at Ama, Louisiana after an accident will shift vessel loadings to three other Louisiana facilities.
Slower barge loadings constrain the flow of corn and soybeans to the Gulf, but light Gulf demand limits near-term supply shortages, so the price effect is modest and mainly affects basis and freight.
