A Farm Progress policy column says CBO projects the cost of keeping the 2014 farm bill in place at about $890 billion over ten years. Savings from lower SNAP spending offset higher projected farm safety-net costs.
The column adds that budget limits will shape the next farm bill debate.
Budget constraints may limit the size of future crop insurance and commodity support, which could affect farm risk-management incentives over the longer term. The effect on near-term feed prices is small.
