Cattle fever tick infestations are growing in South Texas, with 199 premises infested and more than 2,500 under quarantine as of July 10. Congress secured $91.5 million for the USDA APHIS Cattle Health Program in the FY2018 appropriations bill.
Ticks are crossing from Mexico, where control is weaker.
Quarantines and movement restrictions can reduce cattle marketing in affected Texas areas and raise compliance costs. The impact on national prices is currently small.
