Egg prices in South Africa are expected to rise 15-20% as producers cover higher costs from lower output after the H5N8 avian flu outbreak. Egg production fell 12% year on year in September, and prices were up 12% from August 2016.
Reduced egg supply lifts producer revenue, which can support poultry feed demand, while the December petrol increase adds distribution cost pressure.
