The U.S. ethanol industry reported record 2017 production of 15.8 billion gallons and exports of 1.38 billion gallons. Industry leaders warned that protectionism from the EU, China and Brazil threatens export growth needed to reach 1.7 billion gallons in 2018.
Rising trade barriers put at risk the export outlet needed to absorb growing ethanol output, which could weigh on corn demand if markets close.
