China's agriculture ministry said hog prices are set to rise ahead of the Lunar New Year in February as African swine fever outbreaks cut supply. Replenishment of herds by some farmers in major production areas was affected over the past two months.
Prices in Zhejiang were around 18.32 yuan per kg versus a national average of 14 yuan.
Lower Chinese pig supply and higher hog prices typically support pork demand and could lift feed demand over the winter, though feed buyers should watch for a sustained herd rebuild that would eventually add grain and meal demand.
