Malaysia's Agriculture Minister said egg prices rose because bird flu hit poultry and cut supply, with egg production reportedly down about 70% versus two years earlier. He said the shortage is temporary and that the ministry is working with the domestic trade ministry on containing prices.
Lower Malaysian egg output reduces local poultry feed demand only marginally, but farm closures tied to high feed costs point to weaker demand for feed ingredients like corn and soymeal in the short term.
