The USDA's December WASDE raised projected US corn ending stocks for 2018-19 to 1.781 billion bushels, above the 1.736 billion in November and the roughly 1.744 billion analysts expected. Total corn use was cut by 50 million bushels, with the ethanol projection lowered, while wheat ending stocks were raised to 974 million bushels.
Larger-than-expected US corn and wheat carryout points to ample supplies and weaker feed grain prices. Lower ethanol use also signals softer demand for DDGS.
