A University of Illinois study published in Agronomy uses a new algorithm to predict Midwest corn yield and grain composition (starch, oil, protein) from weather during three key growth stages. The predictions apply to the entire U.S. Midwest crop regardless of genotype or practices.
Earlier, more reliable yield and quality estimates could sharpen mid-season expectations for corn supply and feed value. The research itself is unlikely to move prices on its own.
