Shanghai Customs has barred domestic transhipment of pig-related products through the Wai Gao Qiao terminal and all meat products, including meat and bone meal, through the Yangshan terminal, citing recent swine flu cases. Shipments with final destination Shanghai are still accepted, and bookings yet to sail are being rerouted to alternate ports.
Rerouting meat and meat-and-bone-meal cargo raises logistics costs and delays for exporters, and tightens access to Chinese-bound transhipment, which can weigh on export prices for these products.
