A Philippine regulator urged immediate release of the P10-billion Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund under the Rice Tariffication Law. It warned that delays could sabotage the law and that imports could exceed 2 million tons, with farmgate palay prices declining for five weeks.
Expected import growth of up to 2 million tons would add supply pressure on Asian rice markets and farmgate prices.
