The Brazilian real weakened past 4.00 per dollar on Monday, trading as low as 4.0043, its weakest since April 25 and about 1% below Friday's close. The move followed China's retaliatory countermeasures to new US tariffs, which sent emerging market currencies lower and wiped out MSCI's 2019 gains in EM currencies.
Brazil's central bank survey also trimmed the 2019 growth forecast to 1.45%.
A weaker real makes Brazilian soybeans and corn cheaper in dollar terms, which can add export competition and pressure global feed grain and soymeal prices. Slower Brazilian growth also dampens domestic demand for feed.
