Rabobank's report on African swine fever says China's 2019 pork production could fall 25%, with herd losses near 50%. It expects Vietnam's production to drop 15% to 20%, and a further 10% to 15% decline in pork output in 2020.
Chinese live hog and pork prices have reached record highs.
A sharp fall in Chinese pork supply reduces the herd and cuts feed demand for soymeal and corn, while pushing up hog prices. The longer rebuilding period means the bullish hog outlook could persist for years.
