USDA's August WASDE lowered the 2023/24 US corn production estimate by 209 million bushels to 15.11 billion bushels, slightly below market expectations. US corn ending stocks were cut by 60 million bushels to 2.2 billion bushels.
Global corn ending stocks were revised down to 311.1 million tonnes, below expectations.
Lower US and global corn stocks tighten the balance sheet, but the cuts were largely expected and gave the market little lift. Soybean ending stocks came in below expectations, a modestly supportive surprise.
