Penn State researchers used machine learning on three decades of county-level USDA yield data and weather records from 18 central US states. They project that if warming continues, the best growing conditions for corn and soybeans could shift from Iowa and Illinois to Minnesota and the Dakotas within 50 years.
This is a long-term shift in where supply is produced, not a near-term crop event. It has little direct effect on current prices, though it may matter for long-run land and crop-mix planning.
