Consultancy Agritel forecasts French soft wheat exports will fall nearly 40% to 13 million tonnes in 2020/21, from 20.9 million a year earlier. Its 2020 French harvest estimate is 29.22 million tonnes, down from 39.5 million.
Exports to Algeria are expected to drop sharply, while Egypt is expected to buy none from France.
A large cut in French export availability removes a major supplier from world wheat markets, supporting prices and redirecting demand to Russia and Ukraine.
