Australian grain industry group GrainGrowers says Australia produces far more wheat than domestic demand, about one tonne per person versus roughly 10 per cent of that in the EU and US. ABARES forecasts 2020-21 wheat production up 76 per cent to 26.7 million tonnes, which would be the largest crop since 2016-17.
A large Australian wheat crop adds significant export supply after drought years, which is bearish for wheat prices and competes with Black Sea and other origins for Asian buyers.
