S&P Global reports that ABARES raised its forecast for Australia's 2020-21 wheat harvest, with output the highest in at least 31 years. New South Wales production is seen reaching 13.1 million tonnes and Australian wheat exports to China are above 1 million tonnes so far.
Higher Australian output and strong China-bound exports increase competition for other origins in Asian markets, which weighs on wheat prices. Larger supplies also support lower freight demand for Australian grain cargoes.
