USDA's Livestock, Dairy and Poultry Outlook reported February hog slaughter about 3% below a year earlier, largely due to winter weather. Live hog prices averaged $53.93/cwt, 33% above February 2020.
Strong ham and belly demand drove wholesale pork values higher.
Lower slaughter and firm wholesale pork demand support hog prices, and strong cutout values encourage processors to keep bidding for hogs.
