The EIA reports that U.S. imports of biomass-based diesel, including biodiesel and renewable diesel, rose 12% in 2020 to more than 31,000 barrels per day. Consumption was largely unaffected by COVID-19, and nearly 60% of imports were renewable diesel.
Imports are small relative to domestic use, so the effect on feedstock prices is limited. The data does confirm steady growth in biofuel demand supported by federal and state policy.
