The Rosario Grain Exchange said logistics costs for Argentine exporters rose 300% due to historically low Parana River water levels. The river level at Rosario was 20 cm below sea level, and loads per vessel fell about 25%.
Exporters shifted cargoes to southern ports, where shipments of corn and soybeans increased.
Higher freight and logistics costs reduce the price competitiveness of Argentine corn and soybean exports and can limit supply to global buyers. Rerouting to southern ports adds cost that supports Argentine export prices.
