North American agricultural officials met October 25-27 at the Tri-National Agricultural Accord. They discussed Mexico's recent restrictions on agricultural biotechnology and certain pesticides.
The delegates agreed to set up a work group to push for science-based regulation of trade in agricultural products.
A science-based framework would reduce the risk of arbitrary import blocks on U.S. biotech corn, which protects export demand. The outcome is still a commitment rather than a binding policy change.
