Canadian Pacific and the Teamsters agreed on March 22 to settle their labor dispute through arbitration, after a shutdown that began March 20. The Western Grain Elevator Association said the lockout hit an already strained grain handling system and that the damage to grain movements will persist.
Grain elevators and exporters face a backlog of stranded cars during peak seeding-season shipping, which keeps near-term export logistics tight and supports Canadian wheat prices.
