USDA announced plans to buy an additional $50 million of fresh fluid milk under Section 32 for food banks and nutrition programs. The purchase follows $68 million in dairy buys announced in July, bringing two-year dairy purchases to $253 million.
Government buying supports dairy demand and farm prices at the margin, but the amount is small relative to total US milk output.
