The contract between West Coast shippers and the ILWU dockworkers expires July 1, and the two sides have been in talks since May without a deal. A strike would divert traffic to Gulf and East Coast ports and worsen delays and cost increases for agricultural exporters.
A West Coast port strike would disrupt US grain and oilseed export flows, raising ocean freight costs and shipping delays that could pressure export basis and freight rates.
