Officials say India is weighing a ban on exports of white broken rice to maintain food security after a poor monsoon cut kharif paddy output in key states. Other rice varieties and premium basmati would continue to be exported.
A ban on the broken rice grade would remove a significant export volume from world markets while global demand for that grade is high, supporting rice prices.
