Feeder cattle volumes at Oklahoma auctions were up 19.7 percent year over year from mid-July to mid-October, and have been down 6.1 percent over the last two weeks. Feeder prices rose after mid-October following a sharp summer-to-fall decline in futures, and drought has reduced wheat pasture availability.
Smaller fall feeder supplies and drought-reduced pasture support higher feeder prices and tighter cattle numbers heading into spring, with feed demand shaped by the reduced grazing.
