Winter storms closed feeder cattle auctions, and the Christmas holiday has further reduced auction activity, slowing packer inquiry into feeder sales. Tim Petry of NDSU said cull cow movement from the drought-hit Southern Plains had also delayed a rally in fed cattle.
Temporary auction closures reduce near-term feeder trade, though analysts expect fed cattle prices to remain strong into next year.
