The Indian government told sources it will not lift the broken rice export ban or cut the 20% duty on white rice as it tries to contain domestic prices. The official said exports stayed strong despite the duty, and China was the largest buyer of Indian broken rice.
Export curbs on the world's biggest rice exporter restrict supply to importers in Asia and Africa, supporting global rice prices. Buyers will continue to pay more until the curbs are lifted.
