Mexico scrapped its January 2024 deadline to ban genetically modified corn for animal feed and industrial use, via a government decree. The ban on GM corn for human consumption and the herbicide glyphosate was retained.
Mexico, the largest buyer of US corn, keeps feed-corn imports open for now, easing fears of a near-term loss of demand for US yellow corn used in feed. The trade dispute remains unresolved, so US corn export risk persists.
