The euro hovered near a one-year high against the dollar as Europe's resilient economy contrasted with U.S. banking stress, the debt ceiling standoff and recession fears. The dollar index was little changed at 101.41, and the euro traded near $1.1041 with an overnight peak of $1.1096.
The yen was steady ahead of the Bank of Japan's first policy meeting under Governor Ueda.
Dollar weakness tends to support dollar-denominated grain and meal prices and can make U.S. feed exports more competitive abroad.
