Mexico activated emergency cattle controls after a new New World screwworm case was found in Nuevo Leon, the closest detection to the US border since the outbreak began. The infected animal was traced to Veracruz.
The US has suspended imports of Mexican cattle since the last reported case in July.
The border proximity raises the risk of the pest reaching US herds and keeps Mexican feeder cattle imports blocked, tightening US feeder supplies and supporting cattle prices.
