India's Commerce Ministry is preparing a proposal for a panel of ministers led by Amit Shah on changing export duties for parboiled non-Basmati rice. Exporters are also asking for a fixed $90/tonne duty and a cut in the Basmati minimum export price from $950 to $850/tonne.
Easing India's rice export curbs would add supply to the world market and weigh on international rice prices, while tighter duty rules would keep Indian export prices elevated.
