USDA APHIS suspended, effective November 22, 2024 and until further notice, the importation of ruminants including live cattle and bison from Mexico after the screwworm confirmation. Imports of bovine germplasm, sheep, goats and swine from Mexico were already prohibited, and dogs and horses face separate certification rules.
The formal suspension of ruminant imports cuts a meaningful share of US feeder cattle supply until mitigations allow resumption, supporting feeder and live cattle prices.
