Congress passed a stopgap funding bill that moves the government funding deadline to March 14 and sends $110.4 billion to struggling farmers and natural disaster victims. President Biden signed the bill into law late on Saturday, December 21.
The package is the main vehicle for the emergency farm aid.
Emergency farm payments of this size support producer cash flow and can keep grain and oilseed acreage and marketing steady in the near term. The government shutdown risk removal also reduces broad market uncertainty.
