Basis bids for corn and soybeans shipped by barge to the US Gulf firmed as rising river levels on the Ohio and ice on interior rivers slowed loading and barge movement. Corn export inspections for the week ended February 13 beat expectations while soybean inspections fell short.
Barge premiums rose by about 1 cent.
Barge delays and higher river freight costs raise the cost of moving grain to the Gulf, which widens interior basis and supports Gulf export premiums while pressuring farm-gate prices.
