The European Commission will require less paperwork for companies to comply with the EU anti-deforestation law when it takes effect in December. The law will ban imports of commodities such as soy, beef, cocoa and palm oil linked to forest destruction.
Brussels previously delayed the launch by a year after complaints from industries and trade partners including Brazil and Indonesia.
Simpler compliance lowers the cost of exporting soy and palm oil to the EU, which eases a potential barrier to flows. The effect on prices is modest, but it reduces the risk of the EU market closing to these oils and meals.
