CIH's review of the August 12 WASDE said the report was bearish for corn, bullish for soybeans and neutral for wheat relative to trade expectations. Corn production was estimated at 16.742 billion bushels, well above the trade average of 15.991 billion.
This was the first WASDE of the season to use field surveys for the yield outlook.
Corn production well above expectations adds bearish pressure on corn and corn-based feed prices. The first use of survey-based yields may add volatility as harvest approaches.
