USDA's September Cattle on Feed report showed feedlot inventories at 99% of last year and placements down 10% and marketings down 14% in August. Oklahoma State economist Derrell Peel said the figures signal tighter cattle flows through feedlots than the headline numbers suggest.
Sharply lower placements and marketings point to tighter fed and feeder cattle supplies, supporting cattle prices.
