Live and feeder cattle futures hit new highs after the USDA Cattle on Feed report. Cattle on feed was 2% below a year earlier, November placements were 11% lower and marketings were 12% lower.
Both placements and marketings were the lowest for November since the series began in 1996.
Tight feedlot placements and marketings signal reduced near-term beef supply, supporting cattle prices. Feed demand from feedlots is also likely to be lower through early summer.
