IndexBox summarises the December ABARES report, which forecasts Australia's winter crop at 66.3 million tonnes, 10% above last year and the second highest on record. Wheat is seen at 35.6 million tonnes and barley at a record 15.7 million tonnes.
Canola is forecast at 7.2 million tonnes, and planted winter crop area is 25.1 million hectares.
A record barley crop and a large wheat harvest add to exportable supply for Asian feed buyers. This weighs on wheat and barley prices through the 2025/26 marketing year.
