USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins said the department is evaluating a phased reopening of the southern border to Mexican feeder cattle, possibly through the port about 800 miles from the nearest screwworm case. She expects an announcement within a month, and a new sterile fly facility in South Texas is planned for mid-April.
Reopening ports would add feeder cattle supply to a market that is already tight, which is bearish for feeder prices, though the timing and scope remain uncertain.
