Wheat futures rallied on June 30 after USDA's NASS Acreage report showed all wheat planted at 42.74 million acres, well below trade estimates and 1.035 million below March intentions. Quarterly stocks of 920 million bushels on June 1 came in below the 931 million estimate, and winter wheat harvest was 48% complete.
Acreage and stocks below expectations tighten the US wheat balance sheet, giving feed wheat and wheat-based feed costs upward pressure. The rally reflects a report surprise rather than a new supply shock.
