Brownfield Ag News quotes Clean Fuels Alliance America's Kurt Kovarik saying biomass-based diesel plants were at about 50% of capacity for much of 2025 and are now above 70%. The EPA's latest RVOs require 5.4 billion gallons of biomass-based diesel in 2026 and 5.7 billion gallons in 2027.
Kovarik says the industry has nine months to meet a 12-month obligation and must secure feedstock contracts.
Rising plant utilization and the need to contract feedstock in a short window point to firm demand for soybean oil and other fats. That supports oil prices through the second half of the year.
