USTR Jamieson Greer told a congressional hearing that the US wants a commitment from China covering agriculture broadly, beyond soybeans, during President Trump's planned May visit. He said the administration is seeking a mechanism to expand trade in nonsensitive goods, including farm products.
A broader China purchase commitment would add demand for US farm exports beyond soybeans, supporting US soybean and other grain prices if it materializes. Until details are agreed, the effect remains a possibility rather than a firm demand change.
