Brazil's corn planting is behind pace but not the slowest on record. Sowing of the safrinha crop has been pushed back, and the largest concern is Parana, where only 12% of corn was planted by Monday versus 28% a year earlier and a 23% average.
Heavy rains were forecast to persist there.
Late planting raises the risk of yield losses from frost or dry weather later in the season, which tightens export supplies and supports corn prices.
